Account security and two-step sign-in

Protect your account with a strong password and two-step sign-in. This page also explains how to change your email address or close your account.

On this page
  1. Use a strong password
  2. Turn on two-step sign-in
  3. Check where you are signed in
  4. Change your email address
  5. Close your account
  6. Spot fake messages

Use a strong password

  • Use a password you do not use anywhere else, at least 8 characters long. A password manager helps.
  • To change it, open Settings in your account and go to Security.

Turn on two-step sign-in

With two-step sign-in, you need your password and a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Someone who learns your password still cannot get in.

  1. In your account, open Settings, then Security.
  2. Turn on Two-factor authentication.
  3. Scan the QR code with Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or another authenticator app.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app to confirm.
  5. Save your backup codes somewhere safe. You need them if you lose your phone.

Check where you are signed in

Settings, Security lists the devices and browsers signed in to your account. If you see one you do not recognise, sign it out, change your password and turn on two-step sign-in.

Change your email address

You cannot change it yourself at the moment. Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with and tell us the new one. To protect your account, we may ask you to confirm who you are first.

Close your account

Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with to close your account. Before you do, use any codes you have bought and save the receipts you need: orders are no longer available once the account is closed.

Some records are kept after closing where the law requires it, for example for tax. Our privacy notice explains what is kept and for how long.

Spot fake messages

  • We never ask for your password, sign-in codes, backup codes or gift card codes – by email, phone or chat.
  • Check the address of the website before you sign in.
  • If a message pushes you to act fast, stop and read how to avoid gift card scams.
