Your eSIM connects to a partner network in Iceland and switches if the signal is better on another one. The networks for each plan are confirmed at checkout.
Iceland is in the European Economic Area, so EU and EEA SIMs usually roam here at home prices. For everyone else – and for road-trippers who stream music, upload photos and check road conditions all day – a local plan is the simpler option.
Coverage along the Ring Road and around towns is good, but the interior Highlands, reached by F-roads in summer, have large areas without signal. Check road and weather conditions before you set off, save your route offline, and remember that the emergency number is 112.
Example for a 10 GB, 30-day plan. Nothing is used until the eSIM connects in Iceland.
The QR code arrives straight away. The 30 days have not started.
Install on Wi-Fi at home. Keep it switched off until you land.
The 30 days start from the first connection to a partner network.
Whichever comes first. For more data, buy another plan.
You need Wi-Fi and the QR code from your email or your account. Menu names differ slightly between phone models.
Full install guide with picturesOpen Settings, then Mobile Service (or Mobile Data).
Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code, and scan the code from your email or account.
Label the new line Niceway Iceland and choose it for Mobile Data only.
Leave the line switched off until you land. Turn on Data Roaming for it in Iceland.
Open Settings, then Network and internet (Samsung: Connections).
Tap SIMs, then Add eSIM or Download a SIM, and scan the QR code.
Set the eSIM as the SIM for Mobile data. Keep your usual SIM for calls.
When you land, switch the eSIM on and turn on Roaming for it.
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. If it was bought from a mobile network on contract, ask them to unlock it before you travel.
No. Large parts of the interior have no mobile coverage. Plan your route offline, tell someone where you are going, and leave a travel plan on SafeTravel.is before driving the F-roads.
It is enough for maps, messages and occasional photos. If you stream music in the car or share videos, choose 10 GB or more – there is little free Wi-Fi between towns.
No. Both are outside Iceland and have their own networks, so you need a plan that covers them by name.
Yes. The plan starts when the eSIM first connects in Iceland. Install it within 180 days of buying.
