Your eSIM connects to a partner network in Italy and switches if the signal is better on another one. The networks for each plan are confirmed at checkout.
Train tickets, timed museum entries and restaurant bookings in Italy increasingly live on your phone, and the big cities are busy enough that you will want maps and messaging all day. An EU or EEA SIM usually covers you already under roam-like-at-home rules; from the UK, Switzerland or outside Europe, a local plan avoids roaming charges.
Signal is reliable in cities and on the high-speed rail lines. The Dolomites, the villages of the Apennines and parts of the Amalfi and Cinque Terre coastline sit in steep terrain where coverage can drop, and thick stone walls in old buildings can weaken it indoors.
Example for a 10 GB, 30-day plan. Nothing is used until the eSIM connects in Italy.
The QR code arrives straight away. The 30 days have not started.
Install on Wi-Fi at home. Keep it switched off until you land.
The 30 days start from the first connection to a partner network.
Whichever comes first. For more data, buy another plan.
You need Wi-Fi and the QR code from your email or your account. Menu names differ slightly between phone models.
Full install guide with picturesOpen Settings, then Mobile Service (or Mobile Data).
Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code, and scan the code from your email or account.
Label the new line Niceway Italy and choose it for Mobile Data only.
Leave the line switched off until you land. Turn on Data Roaming for it in Italy.
Open Settings, then Network and internet (Samsung: Connections).
Tap SIMs, then Add eSIM or Download a SIM, and scan the QR code.
Set the eSIM as the SIM for Mobile data. Keep your usual SIM for calls.
When you land, switch the eSIM on and turn on Roaming for it.
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. If it was bought from a mobile network on contract, ask them to unlock it before you travel.
Yes, the plan works wherever the partner networks reach, including along the high-speed lines. The long tunnels through the Apennines between Florence and Bologna can cut the signal for a few minutes.
Vatican City has no mobile network of its own and is covered by the Italian networks around it. San Marino runs its own, so check the coverage list on the plan before you go.
Usually not for a short trip: an EU or EEA SIM roams in Italy on its home allowance, within fair-use limits. An eSIM helps if you need more data than that allowance gives you.
Yes. The plan starts when the eSIM first connects in Italy. Install it within 180 days of buying.
