Malaysia is easy to combine with Singapore and Thailand, and many trips start with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur. Grab is the usual way to get around the cities, and the best hawker stalls and night markets are easier to find with a map than by asking.
Coverage is strong in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and along the main highways. In the Cameron Highlands, on the smaller east-coast islands such as the Perhentians and in the rainforest of Sabah and Sarawak the signal can be weak or missing.

A Malaysia plan works only in Malaysia. If you take the causeway or a train to Singapore, add a Singapore plan or choose a regional plan that lists both.
There is signal around the main beaches and jetties, but it can be slow at busy times and patchy elsewhere on the islands. Download what you need before the boat leaves.
