Coverage and networks

Your eSIM connects to a partner network in North Macedonia. The networks for each plan are confirmed at checkout.

North Macedonia is a short drive from Greece, Albania and Serbia, and many visitors see Lake Ohrid as part of a wider Balkan trip. It is outside the EU, so roam-like-at-home does not apply and European plans may charge here.

Coverage is good in Skopje, around Lake Ohrid and along the main roads. In the Mavrovo and Pelister national parks and in the remote villages of the west the signal can fade.

You need Wi-Fi and the QR code from your email or your account. Menu names differ slightly between phone models.

    Open Settings, then Mobile Service (or Mobile Data).

    Tap Add eSIM, then Use QR Code, and scan the code from your email or account.

    Label the new line Niceway North Macedonia and choose it for Mobile Data only.

  4. 4

    Leave the line switched off until you land. Turn on Data Roaming for it in North Macedonia.

Check your phone first

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. If it was bought from a mobile network on contract, ask them to unlock it before you travel.

  • Dial *#06#. If you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
  • Most iPhones from XR and XS onwards, Google Pixel 3 onwards and Samsung Galaxy S20 onwards support eSIM.

North Macedonia eSIM questions

Does it work all the way round Lake Ohrid?

Only on the Macedonian side. The western shore around Pogradec is in Albania, so for a trip round the lake add an Albania plan or a Balkans regional plan that lists both countries.

Will it work at Matka Canyon?

The canyon is close to Skopje, and there is signal at the entrance and around the lake. Deeper inside, between the cliffs, it can drop.

Is the signal good on Lake Ohrid’s boat trips?

Close to the shore, usually yes. The lake is ringed by towns and villages, so you rarely lose signal for long.

Can I buy the plan now and travel next month?

Yes. The plan starts when the eSIM first connects in North Macedonia. Install it within 180 days of buying.
