Your store country
Steam gives every account a store country. It sets the prices you see, the currency of your Steam Wallet and which games are available to you. Steam sets it from where you are and how you pay.
Your wallet currency
Your Steam Wallet holds money in one currency – euros for most accounts in the eurozone, for example, or pounds for accounts in the UK. The balance next to your account name in the store shows it.
Some European countries outside the eurozone have their own Steam currency, such as Poland (złoty), Switzerland (Swiss franc) and Norway (krone).
Why the code’s currency matters
A Steam Wallet code is issued in one currency, and Steam redeems it only on a wallet in that same currency. On an account whose wallet uses another currency, Steam refuses the code.
So choose the card by your wallet’s currency, not by the country you are in.
| Your Steam account | Wallet currency | Card to choose |
|---|---|---|
| Eurozone, such as Germany, France, Spain or Italy | Euros | Steam Wallet, Europe |
| United Kingdom | Pounds | Steam Wallet, United Kingdom |
| United States | US dollars | Steam Wallet, United States |
Niceway sells Steam Wallet cards in euros, pounds and US dollars. If your wallet uses another currency, such as złoty or Swiss francs, Steam will refuse these codes, so do not buy one for that account.
When you travel
Travelling does not change your store country or your wallet currency. Steam changes the store country when you buy something with a payment method from the new country while you are there.
Buying for someone else
Ask which currency their Steam Wallet uses, and choose a card in that currency. Send the code privately, and only to the person it is for.
