Your eSIM connects to a partner network in China. The networks for each plan are confirmed at checkout.
Many services you use at home – Google, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook among them – are blocked on networks in mainland China. Our China plans route your data through Hong Kong, so these services usually work without a VPN. Still, do not count on any blocked service for something essential.
Daily life in China runs on local apps: payments through Alipay or WeChat Pay, ride-hailing through DiDi and maps through Amap or Baidu Maps. Set them up before you fly, while text messages still reach your usual number easily, and keep your home SIM switched on for texts.

They are blocked on mainland Chinese networks, but our China plans route your data through Hong Kong, so they usually work without a VPN.
Not always. Hong Kong and Macao have their own networks, and some plans list them while others cover the mainland only. Check the coverage list on the plan before you pay.
Most shops prefer Alipay or WeChat Pay, and both now accept many foreign cards. Install the apps and link a card before you travel – verification is easier at home.
